Consumers’ credit card usage has steadily increased from 2016 to 2018, rising from 18 percent to 23 percent. This year’s Diary is the first time participants reported debit cards as the most frequently used payment instrument, accounting for 28 percent of payments (Figure 1), while cash was second, used 26 percent of the time. 4 These average daily payments equate to approximately 43 payments per month, including both bill and non-bill payments. In 2018, Diary participants made an average of 1.4 payments per day, compared to the 1.3 and 1.5 payments per day diarists made in 20, respectively. Trends in Cash UsageĬash is the second most used payment instrument Finally, the Richmond Fed for their continued support of this research. This paper would not have been possible without the support and contributions of the following individuals. Additional information about the Diary is available through the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Appendix A provides an overview of methodology. Section 1 details trends in cash usage Section 2 discusses how payment preferences influence the use of cash Section 3 explores cash holding by demographic cohort and Section 4 outlines payment use by transaction characteristic and merchant type. The body of this paper is structured into four sections, with each section exploring various aspects of cash usage. The use of credit cards for in-person purchases increased from 20 percent in 2016 to 25 percent in 2018. For these in-person payments, cash is used 35 percent of the time, followed by debit and credit cards at 30 and 25 percent, respectively. Lastly, the share of in-person payments declined 4 percentage points to 73 percent in 2018. While debit cards are the most popular for those 25 to 44, this group’s credit card usage has increased 9 percentage points from 2016 to 2018. Debit cards are the most popular for this age cohort, used for approximately 14 payments, or 34 percent. The share of cash use is lowest for individuals between the ages of 25 and 44 years old, who reduced their average cash usage by two payments per month. Individuals aged 18 to 25 have the highest share of cash use, 34 percent, followed by those 65 and older who report using cash for 33 percent of payments. In contrast, cash is used for approximately 10 percent of payments $25 and higher. The year-over-year decline of one cash payment between 20 was less than the two cash payment decline between 20.Ĭash continues to be used extensively for small-value purchases, representing nearly half of all payments under $10 and 42 percent of payments less than $25. The 4 percentage point decline in cash’s share of payments is largely due to two factors: 1) cash use declined to 11 payments per month, down from 12 in 2017, and 2) total payments increased from 41 to 43 transactions per month. Participants used cash for 35 percent of in-person payments In-person 2 payments accounted for 73 percent of all transactions. The share of cash use among individuals under 25 years old is the highest of any age group.Cash was used heavily for small-value payments, representing 49 percent of payments under $10.Credit cards accounted for 23 percent of payments, a 2 percentage point increase from 2017.Debit cards were the most used instrument, accounting for 28 percent of payments.Consumers used cash in 26 percent of transactions, down from 30 percent in 2017.A demographically-representative sample of 2,873 individuals participated in the study and reported all of their payments and transactions over three consecutive days, staggered throughout October 2018. The 2019 Diary of Consumer Payment Choice (Diary) highlights findings from the fifth Diary study conducted by the Federal Reserve. Download Chart Data (Excel document, 130 kb)

Its just that everything they have is just more expensive WITHOUT reason. But it's not a fair price comparison to slam the 7000D for costing $100 more when it is truly a massive case and nowhere close to a typical mid size (the company website advertises it as a full-size case, so it's not even in the same size category as the mid-size Lancool III and 5000D).Įdit: I just looked on each company's own website and the Lancool III is nearly identical in size to the 5000D, trading bigger dimensions by 3 to 6 mm in each direction (the Corsair is 6 mm wider and the Lancool is 6 mm deeper, with a difference of only 3 mm in height between them). In fact, if I found a good deal on a used one like I did with my 5000D, I would have picked it up instead. I'd be shocked if the Lancool III is bigger than the 4000D so a fair comparison would be to see if the Lancool III is priced somewhere between the 4000D and 5000D for an appropriate size scaling. The 5000D is really big for a mid-size case, but the 7000D is massive. The compatibility for huge AIR coolers and wide GPUs allows you to dial in a very silent system with enourmous oversized coolers and the full mesh backside with 6x intakes, removes even excessive amount of heat very quickly with just a very low case fan rpm. Overall I would still recommend the case for high wattage GPUs and with the clear objective for a silent gaming PC. Moving the case around with its removable front and plastic top, makes the holding positions rather annoying. The plastic front and top is nothing special and feels rather cheap. The construction of the case is very solid, HDD or fan resonance is no issue with it.The dust filters are fine enough to keep dirt out of your case and are easy to access and to clean. You cant just throw in controller boxes, storage and cables and just close the lid.īut there is plenty of space to place a lot of storage and lots of extra cables, if you do a tiny bit of cable management:Ĥx different fan controllers, 4x SATA storage, 4x additional USB headers for rear I/O and still enough space to close the panel without any contact to the cables: The backside for cable management is mentioned in nearly every techtuber review. Huge Noctua D15 cooler, 4090-FE 12VHPWR over the fill-port: Some PSUs come with extreme short cables and some aftermarket 12VHPWR cables are also very short.Ī very easy workaround is to use the fill-port in the PSU shroud in the Fractal Torrent to guide a short GPU power cable straight to the GPU: The typically shortest connection to the GPU with PCIe or 12VHPWR turns to the longest and even long 750mm power cables are not long enough between PSU and GPU. To make this kind of monstrosity tolerable for the average user, the front width is typically heavily restricted and CPU cooler even with 165mm or wide GPUs with 12VHPWR connectors have not enough width inside the case.įractal's PSU placement has still consequences for your build. Other cases with bottom intakes put the PSU behind the mainboard to the backside and create a nearly cube shaped wide case. The Fractal Torrent (normal MID size) is well optimized for GPU / gaming airflow, because it got bottom intakes for the GPU.įractal moved the PSU / PSU shroud to the top and this allows a normal outer case size, that is not to wide and this way they also kept Noctua D15 compatibility + headroom with ~188mm MAX CPU cooler hight and enough room for wide GPUs with their even wider 12VHPWR cable requirements. That theory doesn’t seem right according to some, including Tom Loomis, a third-generation resident and avid outdoorsman. Once the drought was over, the lake level quickly rose 150-200 feet, they theorized, quickly submerged the trees and preserved them in the frigid water that hovers just above freezing. In 1997, some researchers who studied the trees came to the conclusion that the submerged ancient mature conifer trees grew during a medieval megadrought that lasted 150-200 years. Like nearby Lake Tahoe, much of the deep lake bed still remains unseen by any humans. Carbon dating tests have shown that some of these trees lived between the 9th and 12th centuries, and at least three older trees have been dated to between 18 and 35 centuries ago. There are 96 trees found so far, standing up to 77 feet tall, with some fallen trees measuring over 100 feet in length. Protected from runoff and commercial development, its clear, cold water is home to Lahontan cutthroat trout (the only trout species native to Fallen Leaf Lake) and dozens of ancient trees, many still standing upright. At 6,300 feet in elevation, Fallen Leaf Lake was carved out of granite by two massive glaciers that traveled northward down the Glen Alpine Valley, leaving behind a lake that is now 3 miles long, just under a mile wide, and 410 feet deep at its deepest point. High up in the Sierra, one mile south of Lake Tahoe, lies one of California’s most unique and beautiful alpine lakes. This is similar to its early release in North America, with the Amp logo featuring the text 'Powered by Mountain Dew' beneath it. On March 6, 2013, Amp Energy officially announced that it will re-introduce its Orange flavor.Ī new line of drinks from the Amp brand was introduced in 2018, titled Mountain Dew Amp Game Fuel, bearing the name of Mountain Dew's former line of Game Fuel drinks. Also introduced at this time was Amp Energy Gum, which is made from a blend of B-vitamins, taurine and caffeine. These juices are produced in two flavors: Orange and Mixed Berry, and are packaged in 12-ounce bottles. In February 2010 a new series of juices was launched under the name Amp Energy Juices, which are made with B-vitamins, taurine, ginseng and guarana. There was also a limited edition flavor named Tradin Paint which was an Orange/Lime/Berry drink. Traction has since been renamed to Boost. The Amp Energy product line has since expanded to a broader range of flavors and variants, which as of 2011 included Amp Energy (Original), Sugar Free, Overdrive (cherry), Relaunch (discontinued) (orange), Elevate (mixed berry), Traction (grape), Green Tea, Lightning (lemonade) and Sugar Free Lightning, and watermelon. 8.4 fluid ounces of Amp contains 74 milligrams of caffeine. Amp Energy Original contains taurine, B-vitamins, guarana, ginseng and maltodextrin. According to beverage industry commentators at the time, this labeling update was enacted with the intent of "placing a stronger emphasis on the 'Amp Energy' brand and less on its Mountain Dew roots". In Amp's 2011 redesign, the Mountain Dew logo was taken off the cans completely. In 2008, the label design was changed to contract the product name to a more concise "Amp Energy", with the Mountain Dew logo being shifted to the lower portion of the cans. The original formulation of Amp Energy was positioned as a flavor extension of the Mountain Dew brand, and in 2001 its label read "Amp Energy Drink from Mountain Dew". As of 2009, Amp Energy was the number four energy drink brand in the U.S. The beverage is packaged in both 16-ounce and 24-ounce cans, and is sold in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Lebanon. Beginning in 2009, it was produced and labeled under its own stand-alone trademark name, but in 2018, reverted to using Mountain Dew branding. At the time of its introduction in 2001, Amp Energy was initially distributed under the Mountain Dew soft drink brand. To help you find the right can to jump-start your day, here's a ranking of the best energy drinks you can buy.Mountain Dew Amp (or simply Amp) is an energy drink brand produced by PepsiCo. Choosing between the myriad options can be a daunting task, and not all energy drinks are created equal. Nowadays, there are countless energy drink brands to choose from, and they come in almost every imaginable flavor. According to The New York Times Magazine, the first one was introduced to consumers in Japan in the 1960s, and it took decades before they became mainstream. These fruity, flavorful drinks are a relatively new introduction to the world of caffeinated beverages. If you're looking for a quick kick, but can't bring yourself to choke down a cup of coffee, you could crack open an energy drink. Writing for Ravishly, journalist Gemma Hartly skewered coffee apologists, declaring, "Your dirty brown garbage water is a scourge upon the human race." In fact, many caffeine consumers find the brown, bitter bean juice utterly repellent. Often, folks will turn to a strong cup of joe to get them through the day. Sometimes, you're going to need a little pick-me-up. This once again gives you the ability to have a simple plane. In source engine, this is done through the "Nodraw" tool, a simple way to tell the computer to ignore the existence of any chosen face of a brush. That's why it's vital to make sure that the computer doesn't even consider those faces. Now, obviously it's an awful waste of resources to have all these polygons (as that is what the brushes are as soon as you're in game) serving no purpose on the "negative" side of the map, the side where with any luck no player will see. We finally achieve the shape that takes about 3 seconds to make polygonally. The room now with "nodraw" on all outside faces. Or, at least, I haven't encountered many. There are few such impeding devices when working with brushes. There's also the added bonus of not having to worry at all about 5 sided polygons or any of that malarkey. The downtime gives me more time to consider what I'm doing, whereas with polygons I start and don't stop for nothin'. It really makes you think of exactly what you're doing at all times. Sounds kind of ridiculous, no? In truth, there's something appealing to me about this decidedly methodical way of doing things. It also changes the simple act of ctrl+click and tap F once (the polygonal way), to making six rectangle and carefully aligning them to make an inner cube, making sure there are no gaps. Failure to do so can apparently lead to a performance hit. For instance, it's bad to have two brush faces overlap, and the solution to this is to have only the one edge of each brush touching. This alters the approach slightly between the two methods. That means the most basic shape you can make is a rectangular prism. But when working with brushes, everything has to be a solid shape - no holes. When making a wall, that wall does not have to consist of anything more then one face. See, when working with polygons, the plane is your best friend. On the brush room, the (not pictured) inside faces are the ones that actually are important. That is to say, there is no way to make an object with a hole. The interesting conceit here that makes it quite a bit different than working with regular polygons: There is no option to make a simple plane. When building a map in Hammer, the main tool is a simple device called a "brush", primitive geometry that - using a couple of complimentary tools - are easy to mold into whatever shape is required. Free from the requirement of having to think about how to style and construct my map, the task turned in to simple labor, and I finished it quick-smart. That certainly sounds like a stupid task, to redo literally everything I've done again simply for the fact that the data is non-transferable, And to be honest, it is, but I soon learned it was fairly simple one. So this past while, I've been taking everything I've done thus far and remaking it in Hammer, Source engine's editor. I felt I had a pretty strong idea of where I wanted to take it, both visually and gameplay-wise. Last time you heard from me, I was finishing up the conceptualization of my map.
